South Africa has finally found redemption. In a high-stakes 2026 T20 World Cup rematch, the Proteas dismantled India by 76 runs in Ahmedabad.
After a shaky start at 20/3, David Miller and Dewald Brevis came together under immense pressure and produces a masterful 97 run partnership that completely revived the innings. Miller’s powerful 63 off 35 and Brevis energetic 45 off 29 didn’t just repair the damages but also shifted the momentum entirely. With further support from Tristan Stubbs, struck an unbeaten 44 later on, South Africa reached a competitive total of 187/7, a total that suddenly looked far beyond India’s reach given the conditions. Despite Jasprit Bumrah’s clinical 3/15, rest of the squad crumbled under pressures.
India’s response unravelled almost immediately. Early wickets meant the chase never settled, and the pressure of a rising required rate exposed their increasingly shaky middle order. Keshav Maharaj applied the squeeze with a brilliant spell, including three wickets in a single over, which effectively shut down any hope of a recovery.
But it was Macro Jansen was the star with 4/22, with pace, bounce and pinpoint accuracy, he carved through the Indian line up.
For India, only Shivam Dube offered temporary resistance with 42 runs, but that lone effort was never enough. Wickets fell at regular intervals, partnerships never materialized and the pressure of a challenging surface proved to be hard to chase the score down. The victory only cements South Africa’s position at the top of Group 1 but also places them firmly in control of their semi final spot. India now must face a must win match against Zimbabwe and the West Indies with Net Run Rate become the main factor.
Overall, South Africa delivered one of their most complete T20 world cup performance. They are a much better team compared to previous years, strong than ever.
